Mallard's Top 10 of 2020

1. Da 5 Bloods- Better than BlacKkKlansman. It's a ride and always seems on the edge of being a mess, but by the end it totally works.

2. Possessor- I guess Brandon Cronenberg is just as messed up as his dad. Can't wait to see what he does next because this was great. Not for the squeamish.

3. Another Round- AKA Le Chiffre experiments with day drinking. Honestly made me want to watch more Mads Mikkelsen movies. Come for the performance, stay for the dance moves.

4. I'm Thinking of Ending Things- the latest installment of "is charlie kaufman okay?". It's definitely weird and uncomfortable, so I get why it's polarizing, but I do think there's a lot of substance underneath.

5. Sound of Metal- Riz Ahmed, really good.

6. Bad Education- Cory Finley's sophomore effort after Thoroughbreds, which you should also watch. Exciting director. Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney are fun to watch.

7. Palm Springs- This was FUN and good. the less you know going in the better.

8. The Way Back- Ben Affleck channeling his inner demons in maybe the best performance of his career. Solid movie.

9. Black Bear- This movie is interesting and I still don't think I get it 100%, but Aubrey Plaza is freaking great.

10. Onward- You can make fun of me for this one, but it's the last movie I saw in theaters and it looked amazing on the big screen. Soul is deservedly getting a lot of praise, but Onward is also very good, and gets bonus points for the giant Cheeto.

And here are my honorable mentions from 2020! from top left: Bill & Ted Face the Music, Emma., The King of Staten Island, The Invisible Man, Host, Happiest Season, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, The Platform, Soul
